Ridden assessment

We have already mentioned how strong the bond is between horse and rider. But it’s a relationship that doesn’t always happen naturally. It needs to be built with compassion, trust, and respect. Our ridden assessments are designed to help forge this bond, cementing the partnership between human and horse whilst improving your riding technique.

Each session runs for approximately 90 minutes and consists of a combination of on and off-horse assessments. The on-horse element comprises alterations of positioning and aids using balls and bands to adjust position/posture, leg and hand positioning. After that, we conduct the off-horse rider assessment, where we observe your range of motion, posture and strength using a range of functional activities. It is often advised to have someone there to assist in untacking and holding the horse when the ridden element is finished.

If, during our observations, we notice that the rider is in physical discomfort for whatever reason, we may ask you to hop onto our treatment table so we can conduct a physical assessment.

Horse rider physiotherapy Hampshire

Our ridden assessment session aims to strengthen or restore the relationship between you and your horse but to also make you a more effective and efficient rider. Using a bespoke exercise plan combined with a variety of techniques and training aids, we focus on improving rider asymmetry, position, and posture and identifying any weaknesses in your technique. Once the session is complete, we will put together a detailed report and offer any further recommendations, should we deem them necessary. We will also compile a thorough exercise programme so that you can maximise the efficiency of your future training sessions and subsequently your performance as well.

If you believe you and your horse would benefit from a ridden assessment, please do not hesitate to get in touch via our contact page.
